General File Specifications:

Sending Files

Several methods are available for getting your artwork to us:

1. Our Online File Sharing Service - Upload your files to our Hightail™ (formerly YouSendIt) dropbox located at: https://dropbox.hightail.com/BeautifulDisplays-Dropbox. Simply fill out the online form (valid email address required), select the file(s) you need to upload, and click the “Send It” button. It couldn't be easier!

2. FTP - You may send your files to us using a standard FTP client at ftp.beautifuldisplays.com (or IP address 66.186.102.222). Email your project manager at artwork@beautifuldisplays.com to receive the username and password you will need to access our servers. Please ZIP or Stuff your files into a single archive before uploading and give the archive a name that will make it easy for us to identify your artwork.

If you do not currently have an FTP client installed on your system:
• PC users may download a free FTP client from http://www.coreftp.com
• Mac users may download a free FTP client from http://www.cyberduck.ch

3. Browser-Based FTP Upload - Our FTP servers also feature an HTTP-based upload utility which can be reached at http://ftp.beautifuldisplays.com. As with standard FTP, you will need to contact your project manager at artwork@beautifuldisplays.com to receive the proper username and password. This method does not allow you to queue files, so you should always ZIP or Stuff your files into a single archive before uploading.

4. CD-ROM or DVD-ROM - Submitting files on CD-ROM or DVD-ROM is often more reliable than FTP and is recommended for files larger than 250mb. Disks containing your artwork (along with the appropriate .jpg proofs) may be sent to the mailing address at the bottom of this page.

5. Email - Files under 5mb may be submitted via e-mail attachment, with an accompanying jpeg proof, to artwork@beautifuldisplays.com.

File Formats

The following layout file formats are accepted and preferred: TIF, JPG, AI, EPS, and PSD. See below for additional information on specific software and other file formats.

RGB vs. CMYK

You may choose to send your files in either RGB or CMYK color space. RGB files are smaller on disk and will yield a wider color gamut than will CMYK files. Both will give excellent results when properly prepared. Please make sure all elements within your project are in the same color space.

Color Matching

To achieve accurate spot color matching, layered files must be submitted that allow us to control the spot color areas. Adobe Illustrator files (.ai or .eps) or native Photoshop (.psd) files work well for this process. Be sure to specify Pantone Matching System (PMS) numbers or printed samples for critical spot color matches.

Resolution

All image files should be 100 dpi at actual printed size. Files should not exceed 150 dpi at actual printed size. Higher resolutions are not necessary and will create excessively large and cumbersome files. Larger layouts, such as those for large fabrics backdrops, photomural popup displays, and banner stands, should be done at 100 dpi at actual size. Layouts which contain small text or fine detail can be done at up to 150 dpi at actual size for optimum clarity and sharpness.

Bleeds

As a general guideline, fabric graphics will generally require a 2" bleed on all sides. Traditional rollable trade show graphics and banners generally require no bleed. Different products may have different bleed requirements. Please contact your representative or project manager for exact specifications for your project.

Proofing Options:

Standard Electronic Proofs

Electronic jpeg proofs are created and must be approved for all jobs. Please keep in mind that jpeg proofs are for content and positioning only. They are not intended to be an accurate representation of color or resolution. If these are concerns, physical proofs can be ordered at an additional charge. Please keep in mind that physical proofing adds to production time by three to five working days.

Physical Proofs (Optional)

A) Full Layout Reduction ($25 plus shipping) - This proof shows the entire layout and general color output at a reduced size.

B) Actual Size Swatch ($25 plus shipping) - This proof shows a 12" x 12" swatch of the file printed at actual size and is good for judging the resolution of imbedded imagery or other critical design elements.

C) Critical Color Matching ($50 per matched color plus shipping) - This proof is used for critical spot color matching situations. Multiple blocks of color are printed approximating your desired color. You then pick which block best satisfies your matching requirements and we apply that color value to your final output.

File Formats and Software:

The following layout file formats are accepted and preferred: TIF, JPG, AI, EPS, and PSD.

Macintosh

Photoshop

Files can be in either RGB or CMYK color mode at no less than 100 dpi and no more than 150 dpi at actual printed size. Files can be saved as EPS, JPG (use highest quality settings for jpeg), TIF (with LZW compression) or Photoshop native format. Layered files must be provided when color matching is required.

Illustrator

We accept all past and current Illustrator file versions. IMPORTANT: Be sure to convert all type to outlines and include embedded images. Embedded images should be Photoshop TIFF files at no less than 100 dpi and no more than 150 dpi at actual printed size. Please do not use Illustrator's "transparency" functions as they may print unreliably. Transparency functions include such things as drop shadows, partially transparent objects, feathering, inner or outer glows, etc. These types of effects are more reliably and efficiently done in Photoshop. File setup and handling charges may apply to files that do not conform to our specifications.

InDesign

InDesign files do not work well for large format printing purposes and are subject to additional processing and handling fees. Please use Illustrator or Photoshop to create your large format layouts.

PDF

PDF files are problematic for large format printing purposes and are subject to additional processing and handling fees when they don't work properly. Please use the Illustrator, Photoshop or general image file formats suggested above. If you only have a high resolution PDF to work with, rasterize it into a Photoshop compatible format at 100dpi and examine carefully while enlarged to full print size before submitting the PDF file for printing.

Windows

Photoshop

Files can be in either RGB or CMYK color mode at no less than 100 dpi and no more than 150 dpi at actual printed size. Files can be saved as EPS, JPG (use highest quality settings for jpeg), TIF (with LZW compression) or Photoshop native format.

Publisher and CorelDraw

We do not accept native Publisher or CorelDraw files. Corel files may be saved as TIF files at no less than 100 dpi and no more than 150 dpi at actual printed size.

Illustrator

We accept all past and current Illustrator file versions. IMPORTANT: Be sure to convert all type to outlines and include embedded images on disk. Embedded images should be Photoshop CMYK TIFF files at no less than 100 dpi and no more than 150 dpi at actual printed size. Specific color matches are subject to an additional fee.

File types not accepted:

File types which we cannot accept for printing include, but are not limited to, the following: CorelDraw, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, Miscrosoft Visio, Microsoft Excel, and WordPerfect. Many of these programs may offer ways to save graphics compatible with large format printing and our file specifications. Consult your software manuals or your IT department for assistance.
